Static vs trailing maximum loss

Updated October 2026 · 2 min read

The two calculations

Maximum loss is the account's overall loss limit. It applies alongside daily loss, which uses a separate baseline and resets each day. Having room under one limit does not cancel the other.

  • Static: starting balance × (1 − maximum-loss percentage). Later gains do not lift this floor.
  • Trailing: highest balance reached × (1 − maximum-loss percentage). This is a percentage of the high, not a fixed cash gap from it.

The trailing floor does not fall when the balance falls, including after a reward. It never locks at the starting balance. An equity dip below the applicable floor counts even if the trade later recovers.

A worked example

$100,000 accounts
  1. On 2-Step Standard, 10% static maximum loss sets the floor at $90,000. It remains there when the balance rises.
  2. On 1-Step Standard's simulated funded stage, a hypothetical highest balance of $102,000 gives a 7% trailing floor of $94,860.
  3. If that balance falls back to $100,000, the trailing floor stays at $94,860. Your remaining equity room is the current equity minus that floor; it is not the original maximum-loss allowance again.

Example only — not a forecast.

Before a reward or a new position

Check the floor shown for your own account and stage. On a trailing account, reducing the balance for a reward leaves the climbed floor in place, so review the remaining room before deciding on your next position. Daily loss, minimum hold time and the simulated funded Equity Protector still apply separately.
